Context
Military and civilian populations can be exposed to highly hazardous Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) agents. Early threat identification enables effective measures to be taken (medical countermeasures, decontamination…) in order to limit the consequences. When it comes to threat identification, the first step is sampling which has to be performed close to the dissemination point. Sampling devices must therefore be easily usable in the field by untrained people, like soldiers or firemen, while wearing individual protective equipment.
Bertin Technologies – with support of the French defense procurement agency DGA – has developed two portable air samplers, Coriolis Compact and Coriolis Nano, for biological threat detection. Both devices have been evaluated with representatives of the French armed forces during the SK Challenge IV that took place in Dugway Proving Ground in May 2018.
