Launched in 2020, the Covid-19 detection solution, BEC SARS-CoV-2, is based on RT-LAMP technology for qualitative detection of the SARS-CoV-2 genome on the field in less than 30 minutes. This is the solution that Dr. Paul Gobin, President of the Clinique des Trois Soleils in Seine et Marne (77), chose to equip his healthcare center in early January 2021.
Specialized in the management of musculoskeletal and nervous system ailments, the Clinique des Trois Soleils is a rehabilitation facility with 250 employees, 150 hospitalized patients, and 150 day hospital patients.
“Located in a region hardly hit by the pandemic, we had a real need: to quickly equip ourselves with a detection solution for Covid-19. However, the establishment does not have a biology laboratory. It is therefore impossible to perform RT-PCR type tests on site,” explains Paul Gobin. Indeed, the referenced technique known as “PCR tests” involves an analysis of the samples in the laboratory. The BEC SARS-CoV-2 kit, on the other hand, can be analyzed using a portable reader that can be deployed in the field, and accessible to people not specialized in molecular biology.
The Clinique des Trois Soleils uses the BEC SARS-CoV-2 solution in addition to PCR tests, especially in emergency cases. Paul Gobin explains: “BEC is for us a complementary solution to PCR tests in the fight against an epidemic process. When we have to screen several dozen of people at the same time, we send our samples to the laboratory and retrieve the results after a few hours, corresponding to the travel time between our establishment and the laboratory, added to the analysis time. When the need is urgent and concerns only a few people (patients and hospital staff), we use BEC and obtain a result in 20 minutes. BEC has the advantage of snapshot. “
With a result similar to the reference techniques, BEC SARS-CoV-2 presents notable advantages for this type of healthcare establishment, as Paul Gobin attests: “The main advantage of BEC lies in its portable aspect, which can be used on site, and its ease of use. Our nurses were trained in less than an hour. ”
Nearly 150 people have been tested since January at La Clinique des Trois Soleils with the BEC SARS-CoV-2 system.
