To ensure the safety of the population in the face of potential risks associated with nuclear facilities following natural events, accidents or attacks, it is imperative to carry out a rapid and independent assessment of radiation levels. This measure is designed to protect residents and preserve the environment. In 2023, Bosnia and Herzegovina finalized the implementation of its online monitoring network to measure environmental radiation levels. This system is managed by the State Regulatory Authority for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety of Bosnia and Herzegovina (DARNS).
The measurement system comprises GammaTRACER XL2, SpectroTRACER and DataEXPERT 10 software developed by Bertin Instruments, a Bertin Technologies brand.
