According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the virus of avian influenza is spreading in European countries that had not been affected previously. Additionally the World Organization for Animal Health reports an increase of new and ongoing outbreaks for avian influenza.
Avian influenza is a highly contagious viral infection which affects wild and domestic birds. The disease, which has a very high mortality rate in birds and can cause great financial losses, can also under certain conditions be transmitted to humans.
In an already complicated sanitary situation, national authorities are urged to increase and continue surveillance of non-poultry (including wild birds) and poultry, and to implement control measures to prevent human contact with infected or dead birds.
The Coriolis air samplers range is the ideal tool for the monitoring of specific pathogens (including viruses or endotoxins) in a low or a high airborne contaminated area, such as CAFOs, to prevent animal infections, human respiratory diseases and production line contamination.
