HPMUX – High Power Multiplexer

Space communication relies on stellar fibers to carry signals over thousands of kilometers through space from one point to the next. Stellar fibers are made of high-power beam bundles. The power level required is several folds above standard levels for ground fiber optic communications, but com signal handling functions are the same. Among the recurrent functions is the multiplexing of several signals bundled up together. Bertin designed a multiplexer that can handle 50 to 100 Watt amplified signals coming from each fiber, assembling up to 64 channel arrays into a signal of over 1 KW that is then beamed to the target satellite.

Designed for ground stations, Bertin’s HPMUX multiplexer is the same as the one integrated with the FiTT component within the FiTT satellite payload.
