To ensure the proper functioning of high-performance optics, it is essential to pay attention to maintenance and alignment with suitable mechanics. With extensive experience in opto-mechanical design, the mechanical engineering department of Bertin Winlight leverages its expertise across various projects by offering optimized designs while managing costs.
Opto-mechanical design is a fundamental step as it allows for the “dressing” of optics without compromising their performance. This step takes into account all interfaces, environmental constraints (vacuum, extreme temperatures, vibrations, etc.), as well as overall specifications to ensure the technical performance of the systems.
CAO under pro-engineer (Creo®)
Our mechanical design department closely collaborates with project managers to create 3D designs. Our engineers handle the entire study, from preliminary calculations to the development of the system definition file. They also identify standard components (motors, connectors, etc.) and work in synergy with manufacturing and integration departments to ensure that the system is designed with the manufacturing and adjustment strategy in mind right from the outset.
FEA (Finite Elements Analysis) calculations under NASTRAN (Femap®)
Calculations of mechanical and thermal structures (FEA – Finite Elements Analysis), in steady-state or transient modes, are performed using NASTRAN. This software allows for the evaluation of the design’s ability to maintain its performance when the system is subjected to stresses that may affect its durability and performance. These stresses can involve thermal environment, pressure (under vacuum or at high altitude), vibrations and shocks (during takeoff, in embedded systems, or in noisy environments), as well as optical deformation depending on the loading mode.)
Complex systems
The opto-mechanical systems developed by Bertin Winlight are diverse:
- Test benches for military equipment manufacturers
- Lenses, sub-systems, telescopes, OGSE, focal planes for space and aeronautics
- Spectrographs, telescopes for astronomy
- Optronic systems
Qualification & validation of models
Bertin Winlight uses qualification tools that allow mechanical design engineers to recalibrate their models by, for example, researching resonance frequencies or testing the durability of assemblies in thermal chambers. To achieve this, Bertin Winlight has:
- A vibrating table
- Three climatic chambers, one of which is cryogenic
- A tensile testing machine
